Public & Paywall Charging Stations
With the United States as a notable exception, most of the world’s population does not have access to a home that can readily charge an electric vehicle battery. Hence, the proliferation of public charging stations is a pre-condition to mass adoption of electric vehicles on a global scale. Meanwhile, many charging stations in place today that are considered “public” have additional fees (primarily parking fees) that present a significant barrier (i.e., “paywall”) to broad access. It is, therefore, imperative to evaluate the practical and financial constraints associated with public charging infrastructure as it stands today and may appear in the future to develop more effective policy and business models.
