Connectivity & Control

Unlike gas stations, public/paywall charging stations are (from the driver’s perspective) randomly distributed throughout a city and often difficult to find even within a giving parking structure. Given the typically long charging times for electric vehicles, information about current station availability is also key. Connected charging networks with mobile apps fill a much-needed requirement to inform drivers of the specific locations and costs of available charging stations. Once a station is physically-located, access to the charging station must be managed to ensure payment. The ability to centrally-control the availability and power output of charging stations is also a key enabler towards more integrated energy management solutions that include the potential for bi-directional power flow from the vehicles to the facility or grid. In all circumstances, vehicle, facility, and financial information must be protected through active cyber security measures to prevent theft or other harm to life and property.
